Class Assembly – Empathy
Empathy can be defined as the capacity to understand and share the feelings of others. It is the ability to be aware of other people’s emotions, experiences, and perspectives.
As Barack Obama said it “Learning to stand in somebody else’s shoes, to see through their eyes, that’s how peace begins. And it’s up to you to make that happen. Empathy is a quality of character that can change the world.”
The class assembly brought to us by XII G began with a melodious prayer sung by Apurva Babu, which was followed by the thought and news presented by Sanjana and Tanya, who gave us an insight into empathy and updated us about the recent news. They also presented the school news which informed us about the current activities taking place in school as well as the future events that have been at work.
This was followed by a remarkable student talk given by Vedant Menon. He emphasized and taught us about the importance of empathy and how just by trying to put ourselves in someone else’s shoes and how just by trying to understand another’s, this world would be a better place.
The skit,’ The encounter’ was the highlight of the show. It was a beautiful skit that was brought to us by the students of XII G. The story highlighted the life of a young lieutenant who was confronted by a dilemma. She was once let go by her enemy soldier due to which she could save her life, but not too long after, she was faced with a similar situation where she had to ‘take care’ of an enemy soldier. The story showed us how the lieutenant saw herself in the eyes of the enemy soldier and felt the same pain the enemy felt.
The skit opened our eyes to a world in which we never thought empathy would play a role.
The skit also had beautiful illustrations of the army camps which were brought by Tanya Sudheer. The skit was concluded with the rolling of the credits and a beautiful song sung by Diya Bhandary.
The class teacher Mrs. Anitha M gave us her teacher’s talk, which drew from the play. She told us about the importance of empathy and in times like these, where we are locked away from the world, where we have zero human interactions, the sense of empathy is lost. She helped us overcome the problem of forgetting what empathy was by teaching us ways to practice it, small steps that could make our as well as other’s life better.
The MC of the show, Anikethan Joishy requested the Head of school and the coordinators to give their views on the assembly and the class received positive remarks, they also gave us their thoughts on empathy.
Anitha ma’am later thanked her entire class for their hard work and that brought big smiles on the faces of the students of the class.
The entire class assembly was concluded by the vote of thanks presented to us by Zoya.
